Yangshan Quarry & The Most Ambitious Megalithic Monument Never Constructed

The Yangshan Quarry in Nanjing, China, holds the remains of what what most likely the biggest megalithic project ever attempted! The Stele they were planning on erecting would have weighed over 31,000 tons between just 3 stones, the base pedestal alone weighing over 16,000 tons, but It was abandoned when they realised they didn't have the ability to move these colossal stones after much of the stone work was already completed. The work was carried out during the Ming Dynasty under the reign of the Yongle Emperor in the early 1400's, a little over 600 years ago, and just imagining what this monument could have been which it's sheer size is nothing short of mind blowing!
