WESTERN BANDED SNAKE EAGLE

Similar to the previous species, the Western Banded Snake-eagle, Circaetus cinerascens, inhabits the forests and savannas of West and Central Africa. This eagle has a striking appearance, with bands of white and dark feathers across its body, and it preys mainly on reptiles, particularly snakes and lizards.

This species also lays one egg per breeding season. The incubation period is around 50 days, and the nest is usually located in a tree, well-concealed by leaves. The chick fledges at about 65-75 days, ready to begin life as a skilled predator."*
