They partnered with an Amish family to create tiny houses
Nick & Melissa Brown moved to Randolph, NY and made friends with an Amish family. The two young families joined forces and started the Straw Hat Project, a company that specializes in creating custom cabin homes. Melissa says the original idea was that they would create cabins for "hunters or weekend get-a-ways", but soon realized that their customers were looking for something more "people are walking in and falling in love and want this to be their home." They offer three basic cabins, but according to Melissa most of their customers are ordering custom versions. Nick says that Amish quality is unmatched "the amount of time and the amount of care they put into their work for generations comes out in everything they build." The couple says they will be donating 10% of the proceeds from their company to the Amish Medical Fund. There is more information about Straw Hat Project at their website.
