Our reading is John 6:51-58 - another instalment in Jesus' notorious 'bread of life' discourse. As the dialogue continues, the crowd grow impatient. Jesus seems to be speaking in metaphors and they don't understand, yet when they press Him for a straightforward explanation, he digs deeper, culminating in extraordinary statements such as the one quoted above.
