Irate client attempts chargeback before contacting us

The speed dating host has gone through countless number of people ignoring his emails of offering refund, but this one customer went extreme. He attempted to perform a chargeback (payment dispute) behind the scenes while ignoring the emails the host sent to him about his refund. This whole fiasco wouldn't have happened had he sent us an email first regarding his issue, or even better, simply responding by stating that he wants a refund.
