Nosferatu, directed by F.W. Murnau, is a seminal silent horror film and one of the earliest adaptations of Bram Stoker's Dracula. It is a masterpiece of German Expressionism, known for its eerie atmosphere, innovative cinematography, and the iconic portrayal of the vampire Count Orlok by Max Schreck.

The film follows Thomas Hutter, a real estate agent who travels to the remote castle of Count Orlok in the Carpathian Mountains to finalize a property sale. Once there, Hutter realizes that Orlok is not just an eccentric nobleman, but a horrifying vampire. Orlok becomes fixated on Hutter’s wife, Ellen, and decides to move to her town of Wisborg, spreading terror and a deadly plague along the way.

Ellen, sensing the danger, learns that the only way to defeat the vampire is to sacrifice herself by keeping him in her presence until dawn. She bravely offers herself as bait, and as Orlok feeds on her, the sunlight rises, destroying him.

Nosferatu (1922) stands out for its unsettling imagery, including Orlok's grotesque appearance with his gaunt figure, long claws, and rat-like face. The film’s shadowy visuals and stark use of light and dark have made it one of the most influential horror films of all time, despite being an unauthorized adaptation of Dracula.
