During an interview director Quentin Tarantino was discussing the shooting on the set of Rust by Alec Baldwin and despite the risks of real guns being used on movie sets Tarantino is adamant he prefers them over fake guns.

The director behind films like Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Inglourious Basterds has said you don’t get the same effect firing fake guns and adding the flash in post. He believes the use of real firearms firing blanks is necessary despite the risk. He also believes the practice is relatively safe given how few people have actually been killed by firearms on sets despite the number of guns used in movies.
