The FBI has released new photographs of evidence found in their investigation into the attempted assassination of Donald Trump. The four photos are of Thomas Matthew Crooks’ rifle, his backpack, the unexploded bombs in his trunk and the air conditioning unit he used to scale the dangerously sloped roof.

Despite over 1,000 hours of interviews and trawling through five years of Crooks’ internet history, the FBI are still unsure as to the motive behind Crooks’ assassination antics. Special agent Kevin Rojek told reporters that Crooks had ‘a mixture of ideologies,’ and that they saw ‘no definitive ideology associated with our subject, either left-leaning or right-leaning.’ Crooks had apparently been searching for how to make explosives since 2019, although the bombs he made ‘had several problems,’ and the detonators were switched off.

Despite being unsure of what did happen, the FBI are much more confident in what did not. There were no traces of drugs or alcohol in Crooks’ system. There was no indication of foreign involvement in the planning. There was no second shooter, or accomplice of any kind. And there is no way to confirm any of the biological evidence because the body has already been cremated.
