Why do your shoulders keep hurting?
Tthe complexities of the shoulder and the challenges of strengthening and rehabilitating shoulder muscles effectively is something we all face. We want simple answers, but there is nothing simple about the body...The shoulder blade (scapula) alone is connected to 19 different muscles, making shoulder movement highly complex. Common approaches to shoulder strengthening, such as rotator cuff exercises and full-body weight-bearing exercises like planks and push-ups, are too simplistic or overly strenuous, especially for those with existing injuries. I'm advocating for a balanced, "middle path" approach, inspired by the Goldilocks principle, where exercises are neither too little nor too much. In this video, I'm including using functional movement patterns against a wall, which allows the shoulder to adapt to various force vectors without bearing the full weight of the body. The importance of incorporating movements that mimic everyday activities is sooooo important, ensuring that the exercises are applicable and beneficial for daily life.
I also discuss the significance of shoulder rotation, both internal and external, and the need to train the shoulder to absorb forces effectively. This exercise involve controlled rotary movements of the shoulder against a wall, with variations in hand positioning (low, medium, high) and foot pivoting to distribute weight and stress across the shoulder girdle. The focus is on gradual adaptation, avoiding extremes, and enhancing the shoulder's resilience to prevent injury in real-world activities.
