Da Urban Conservative: The Ghosts of Dred Scott and the NFRA: A Call to Black America in 2024
Welcome back to Da Urban Conservative, where we speak truth to power, unfiltered and unapologetic. Today, we're diving deep into a storm that's brewing, a storm rooted in a sinister past that echoes through our present. The National Federation of Republican Assemblies (NFRA) has thrown down a gauntlet in the 2024 election, and it's got the fingerprints of the 1857 Dred Scott decision all over it.
Now, you might be asking, why are we talking about a court ruling from over a century and a half ago? Because, my brothers and sisters, history is not dead. It’s not even past. The NFRA, a 90-year-old organization, has invoked the infamous Dred Scott decision to question the legitimacy of Kamala Harris, the first Black woman to rise to the office of Vice President, as a candidate for the presidency.
The Dred Scott decision, for those who need a reminder, was a Supreme Court ruling that declared Black people were not citizens of the United States, whether enslaved or free. The Court decided that no Black person had any rights that a white man was bound to respect. It was a declaration of our inhumanity, a legal death sentence to our dignity. And now, in 2024, the NFRA dredges up this same evil to challenge whether Kamala Harris is fit to run for the highest office in the land.
Let’s be clear—this isn’t just about Harris. This is about every Black person in America. This is about the value of our citizenship, the worth of our humanity. The NFRA isn’t just saying Harris can’t run; they’re saying that no Black person, no descendant of slaves, no one who carries the blood of our ancestors, has a legitimate claim to the promises written in the Constitution.
When they cite Dred Scott, they’re not just trying to take us back to 1857. They’re reminding us that to them, we’ve never truly left. In their eyes, we’re still the descendants of slaves, still outside the promise of American democracy. They’ve dug up the chains that bound us to the plantation and are trying to shackle us once again to a system that was never meant to serve us.
But brothers and sisters, let me tell you something. We’ve been here before. We’ve faced the lash, the noose, the fire hoses, and the dogs. We’ve been told time and time again that we don’t belong in the halls of power. And every time, we’ve fought back. We’ve bled, we’ve died, but we’ve never given up our claim to our humanity, to our right to shape this nation’s future.
This is a time for awakening, a time for action. The NFRA wants us to cower in fear, to be intimidated by their historical weaponry. But we know better. We know that the fight for our rights is not just a fight for today, but a fight that spans generations. It’s a fight that connects us to our ancestors and to the unborn children of our future.
The 2024 election is more than just a vote. It’s a referendum on our citizenship, our place in this nation, our right to lead and to be heard. Kamala Harris represents a culmination of the struggle our people have waged since the first African was dragged to these shores in chains. Her candidacy is not just about her; it’s about us. It’s about proving that we are not the subjects of a system designed to oppress us, but the architects of a new America, an America that must reckon with its past to build a future that includes all of us.
So, as we move forward, let’s do so with the clarity of vision that our ancestors had when they fought for freedom. Let’s recognize the NFRA’s ploy for what it is—a desperate attempt to hold onto a world that is dying, a world where Black people were nothing more than property. And let’s reject it with the same determination that led our people out of bondage, through the Civil Rights Movement, and into the halls of power.
The ghosts of Dred Scott may still linger in the minds of some, but we are not their prisoners. We are the children of a righteous struggle, and we will not be turned back now. This election is our chance to move forward, to continue the work of liberation that our ancestors began. The NFRA has made its move—now, it’s our turn to respond.
Stand tall, stand strong, and let’s show the world that Black America will not be silenced, intimidated, or denied. The spirit of Dred Scott may still haunt the halls of power, but we are the exorcists. We are the ones who will drive out the darkness with the light of our truth, our dignity, and our unbreakable resolve.
This is Da Urban Conservative, and we’re just getting started.
