Mora Basic 511 Beginner Outdoors Fixed Blade for Bushcraft & Camping - Scandi Grind Carbon Steel

This is a Mora Basic - a very ergonomic, but also a very inexpensive knife. Which makes it a perfect first pick for people who want to try outdoor activities - such as fishing or camping. And due to its light weight, it also makes an amazing backup.

The Basic comes with a high carbon blade steel and a Scandi grind which makes it hard to break, but easy to sharpen. However, it also makes corrosion a real issue. My Mora Knife developed some nasty yellow rust under the blink of an eye after the very first use. But this was not a big problem as I know how to deal with it. So, I quickly cleaned it up and applied some KPL Kamellia Oil to protect it from the elements.

After I was done, I was left with this gorgeous grey patina. Which gives the knife its own personality. If I think about it - this feature of the Mora Basic just makes it even better for beginners. As it can teach them not only how to use the knife, but also how to maintain it. Plus, they can also learn to customize it just how I drilled a lanyard hole on mine. Which makes it not even that Basic anymore…
