Purple Perfection: A Sourdough Aster Flower

The process of making and scoring the aster flower. Purple is my favorite color and I loved how the deep purple from the sweet potatoes on the inside came out. It’s a little trickery to get a natural purple on the outside of the sourdough. More experimenting to be had! 🪻

These beautiful colors come from natural plant-based powders from @gosupernatural and @watkins.1868. I covered the sourdough with a mix of purple sweet potato powder, rice flour, and a few drops of Watkins blue, and for the finishing touch, I added Supernatural plant based colors, orange and yellow, to the center of the flower. To create that 3D effect, I added foil under the leaves after the first 5 minutes in the oven.
