Caio Borralho defeated Jared Cannonier at UFC Vegas 96. He's now the new name of the elite middleweight contenders. How far is he from Dricus Du Plessis and a title shot?

After beating Paul Craig, a depleted one at that, Caio Borralho wanted his way into the top of the division. Jared Cannonier gave him that opportunity and Caio Borralho succeeded. After a fifth round near-finish, Caio Borralho is now just one win away. He is as legit as they come. Coming from the Fighting Nerds, it's easy to see that something is going fight for Caio Borralho and the rest of that gym.

All that said, Jared Cannonier didn't look terrible against Caio Borralho. He looked older, sure, but he held his own and even had Caio Borralho hurt at times. Ever since the Israel Adesanya fight, Jared Cannonier has been getting better and adding things to his tool belt, like switching stances effectively. Unfortunately for Jared Cannonier, the loss to Caio Borralho and the previous one to Nassourdine Imavov combined with his age has probably ended the hopes for a title shot for the rest of Jared Cannonier's career.

Gerald Meerschaert had an incredible comeback win over Edmen Shahbazyan. After being hurt badly in round two, Gerald Meerschaert was able to survive and get back up. An outside single while dodging a knee later, and Gerald Meerschaert had Edmen Shahbazyan in an arm triangle and a huge come from behind win.

Zach Reese may be my new favorite fighter. As violent as they come, he finally had a fight leave the first round. Jose Medina was tough, and like the old South Park episode, he didn't see no bell. Zach Reese was composed and took his time, slowing down his approach and showed off his quality wrestling. Great win for Zach Reese!
