New Sick Leave and Minimum Wage Laws Mandated by Michigan Supreme Court

Six years ago, Michigan legislature adopted voter-initiated laws to “raise the minimum wage and require paid time off,” but then made alterations to the law to decrease that minimum wage increase and exempt businesses with 50 employees or less from sick leave requirements, according to Bridge Michigan. The Michigan Supreme Court, however, just ruled that the alterations were done unconstitutionally, and that the original voter-initiated laws must be reinstated by February 2025.
