Crowd of migrants attempt to swim to Spanish enclave

A huge influx of illegal immigrants was spotted trying to swim into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta on Monday morning. The group, heading from Moroccan waters, took advantage of thick fog to hide their approach. The crowded beach was evacuated, and Spanish police were able to ‘push back’ most of the group, although it is estimated that 15 migrants were able to enter Ceuta.

Spain’s other African enclave, Melilla, has also experienced a surge in migrant activity recently, with a viral video showing the coast guard attempting to repel a boat full of illegal immigrants from reaching the shore. According to Juan Vivas, leader of Ceuta, migrant shelter occupancy is currently at 422% of capacity.
