Simplifying ISF Filings: Submitting in Languages Other Than English

In this video, we explored whether Importer Security Filings (ISF) can be submitted in languages other than English. We discussed that while English is the primary language of communication in the US customs process, the CBP allows for ISF filings to be submitted in other languages. However, an accurate English translation of the information must be provided to ensure CBP officials can review and understand the contents of the filing without any language barriers. We emphasized the importance of accuracy and compliance in ISF filings, as inaccuracies could lead to delays or penalties in the clearance process. Working with a licensed customs broker was also highlighted as a recommendation to ensure a smooth customs clearance process, as experienced customs brokers are familiar with the language requirements and can assist in accurately translating and submitting ISF filings. Overall, accurate and compliant ISF filings, regardless of the language, are crucial for importers to avoid delays, penalties, and build a good relationship with CBP officials.
