🔘Igudar: The Oldest Banking System?🔘

•Many researchers regard the Amazigh granaries, known as "Igudar," as some of the earliest forms of banking systems in human history.

•Primarily located around the southern city of Agadir, these granaries can also be found in other regions of Morocco.

•They were multifunctional, used to store essentials like barley and wheat, legal documents, and even valuables such as jewelry.

•The granaries were managed with remarkable organization.
•Boards or tablets, such as the Agadir Oujarit tablet, written in 1492 and considered the oldest known to researchers, laid out the guidelines for their management.

•A secretary, known as the “Lamine,” oversaw operations, supported by a committee of about ten representatives from various tribes, known as the “Inflas.”

•Beyond storage and safekeeping, Igudar served multiple purposes.

•They were used as water reservoirs, food warehouses, housing, mosques, and lodges for keepers.

•During times of war, droughts, famines, epidemics, or locust infestations, Amazigh tribes also used them as shelters for both people and livestock.
