NEW: Donald Trump says he wants to tap Elon Musk to help "cut out some of the fat" in government, adds he wants Musk's help to beat China on AI.

Here is where Elon could fit in with a Trump administration:

1. Elon could help with "cutting some of the fat."

2. Elon would *not* likely be in Trump's cabinet due to his current roles with Tesla, X, SpaceX, etc. but could take on some sort of consultant role.

3. Elon would consult the Trump administration on "cutting out the fat" as mentioned above along with artificial intelligence.

"We have to cherish our geniuses. He is a brilliant guy and what he really would like to do is get involved in cutting some of the fat."

"Look, he's running big businesses and all that, so I don't think he'd be cabinet."

"He could consult on AI... It's very important for the country. If we don't do it, China's gonna do it or somebody else."
