Sumampan Waterfall, Bali guide and walk through
Not just a waterfall, but some pretty fun rapids too and a large rock to jump into the water from. We spent half a day at this beautiful place and the icing on the cake was the fantastic cafe at the entrance. We had so much fun here that it's my pleasure to introduce you to it. Not very busy at all, when we visited in mid 2024. The waterfall and rapids were perfectly safe for my 8 year old daughter, although she is a pretty confident swimmer. Enjoy!
Discovering Sumampan Waterfall: A Hidden Gem in Bali
If you're looking to explore the natural beauty of Bali beyond the usual tourist spots, Sumampan Waterfall is a must-visit destination. Nestled in the lush landscapes of Ubud, this stunning waterfall offers a serene escape and a perfect backdrop for photography enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.
Location and Accessibility
Sumampan Waterfall is conveniently located near the village of Tebesaya, just a short drive from central Ubud. The waterfall is easily accessible by car or scooter, making it a popular spot for those exploring the Ubud area. Upon arrival, visitors must walk down a well-marked path that leads through a picturesque rice field and lush greenery, creating an enchanting experience even before reaching the waterfall.
The Waterfall Experience
As you approach Sumampan Waterfall, the sound of cascading water will draw you in. The waterfall cascades approximately 20 meters and tumbles into a clear, natural pool, making it an ideal spot for a refreshing swim. Surrounded by high rock walls and vibrant tropical foliage, the setting feels like a hidden sanctuary, perfect for unwinding and connecting with nature.
Best Time to Visit
For those wanting to avoid crowds, visiting early in the morning or late afternoon is recommended. The golden hour offers stunning lighting for photography, highlighting the waterfall's beauty. Additionally, the rainy season (November to March) can enhance the waterfall’s flow, but be cautious of slippery trails during this time.

Exploring Nature: The area is rich in flora and fauna, making it a great spot for bird watching and enjoying Bali’s natural biodiversity.
Tips for Visitors
Wear proper footwear: The trail to the waterfall can be muddy and slippery, so sturdy shoes are recommended.
Bring water and snacks: While there may not be many amenities nearby, having refreshments will enhance your visit.
Respect the environment: As with all natural sites, please take your trash with you and preserve the beautiful surroundings.

From mid-2024, my wife and I quit our jobs and took our children out of school to pursue a nomadic lifestyle around the world. We had spent 17 years working our socks off in the "great" rat race of Western culture and had had enough, and so took the plunge and decided to wing it.
