Chatfield vs Cherokee Trail Full Game High School Football 8.25.2023

While Chatfield's offense shot themselves in the foot, Jr NT Cody Wittig dominated from the start. He piled up 2 sacks, 2.5 TFL, 1 forced fumble, 6 solo tackles, 8 assists, and recovered a Cherokee Trail fumble inside the one yard line with minutes remaining in a 3 point game. Jr RB Brock Narva led the Chargers with 135 rush yards, 2 TDs and caught 4 balls for 41 yards. His 32 yard run sealed the game late in the 4th quarter. Jr WR Peyton Sommers had a huge day, catching 7 passes for 137 yards and a 77 yard touchdown. Sr Peyton Castro added 4-74-TD for the Cougars. QB Tyson Smith threw for 250 yards and the 2 TDs for CT. Jake Jones threw for 207 yards and a 52 yard touchdown to Sr WR Micah Lumpkin (3-80-1). The two are now freshmen at Fort Lewis College. Sr CB Niguse Shelp had 4 tackles, an early interception and a nice pass break up for CSH. He is now playing for the University of San Diego. Jr All-Conference kicker Andrew Astone hit two field goals (1 was blocked) and all 3 XPs, while also nailing a 68 yard punt that was downed at the 10. Junior LBs Caleb Espinosa (11, 3 TFL) and Logan Kundred (12) stacked the bodies on defense. Sr DE Avery DeWeese (now at Anderson U in S.C.) racked up 8 tackles, 2 TFL and forced a fumble that So DE Nate Helms recovered to set up a TD.
