The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is calling on judges to “urgently” rule on his request for arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu and others linked to the war in Gaza.

In a new legal brief, prosecutor Karim Khan called on a panel of ICC pretrial judges to “urgently render its decisions” on the requests he filed in May.

The request calls for arrest warrants against Netanyahu, as well as his Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. Two other Hamas leaders expected to have warrants issued have since been killed.

Dozens of countries, academics and victims and rights groups have provided legal arguments either rejecting or supporting the court’s power to issue the warrants amid its probe into the war.

Israel and the US do not recognize the ICC.

The war in Gaza was launched on Oct. 7, 2023 when the Hamas terror group launched a surprise attack against Israel, killing 1200 people and taking 250 hostages, more than 100 of which still remain in captivity.
