Trump to hold rally in Butler before Republican convention
The former president will speak in Western Pa. before GOP delegates gather in Milwaukee

Former President Donald Trump is returning to Pennsylvania shortly before Republicans gather to nominate him for another term in the White House.

Trump is scheduled to hold a rally on July 13 in Butler, just two days before the GOP national convention begins in Milwaukee and less than a week after President Joe Biden holds his own campaign event in Philadelphia.

The former president last campaigned in the Keystone State in June, when he spoke in Philadelphia following his conviction on 34 felony counts. He originally was to be sentenced July 11, but the judge delayed proceedings following the U.S. Supreme Court’s unprecedented grant of immunity for official presidential actions. The 6-3 decision was decided along partisan lines, with the three justices nominated by Trump joining the majority. Based on that immunity ruling, Trump’s lawyers are arguing for the verdict to be set aside.

The Butler rally will be held at the Butler Farm Show complex at 5 p.m. and will “emphasize the horrendous effects Biden’s dishonest presidency.” Trump is riding a high following last Thursday’s debate, during which he delivered more than two dozen falsehoods, according to fact checkers. National attention has focused instead on Mr. Biden’s poor performance, which exacerbated concerns about the president’s age. Biden is 81; Trump is 78.
