After 'Crossfire Hurricane', Trump Declines To Take Early Intelligence Briefings

Posted • August 23, 2024: Around August or September, major party candidates are offered intelligence briefings as a courtesy. Trump has decided to decline the briefings and it's really hard to argue with his logic. Former President Trump tells the Daily Mail he does not want to receive the intelligence briefings that are normally offered to major party nominees, as he doesn’t want to be accused of leaking any information he learns during those briefings. Two things to note: The pre-election briefings are not required by law, and we do not know if the Biden administration would even offer them. Biden did take the unusual step of banning Trump from receiving intelligence briefings after he left office, reportedly stating that Trump was erratic and not trustworthy. This was prior to Trump being indicted in the classified documents case, so it’s highly likely that Biden wouldn’t feel more comfortable **after** that indictment.

These briefings usually take place in late August or early September, so we’re coming up on the time when a major party nominee would normally be offered them. While the briefings do contain classified information, they are very broad in scope. The juicy stuff doesn’t come until after you’ve been elected. (…)
