Palestinian Realizes He's A Zionist!
For too long certain words, names, or populations have been demonized to turn populations against one another in order to generate conflict. The sad reality is that some people want to maintain such conflicts since they obtain political power or even profit financially from the suffering of those involved. In the meantime, the populations, real human beings, are suffering from such conflicts and are manipulated and turned against each other.
The term “Zionism” means the right for the Jewish People to self-determine on their ancestral and native land. There is no other definition of this word. One does not have to be Jewish to support Jewish liberation, nor have to be particularly on any side of the political or religious spectrums.
Apart from the fact that the Jewish People successfully revived their language, culture and civilization by liberating the land from the British Empire, there have been local and ethnic conflicts in the region which have caused tremendous pain and suffering for all in the region. Conflicts which were initiated, caused, and maintained, by the rejection of a Jewish presence in the land.
In 1948, 1967 and 1973, three wars were waged by the surrounding Arab countries that sought to drive the Jewish population, “from the (Jordan) River to the (Mediterranean) Sea”. In other words, these Arab leaders articulated with much pride, that they sought to ethnically cleanse the Jewish population from the land. During wars, people are killed, people are injured, people are displaced, and this happens to all civilian population involved.
Anti-Semitism is one of the oldest forms of xenophobia and hatred in recorded history. It has evolved, changed forms, been repackaged, and pops up in every generation in a different way. The secret weapon that Anti-Semites use to spread their hatred to the masses, is finding away to attach suffering or evils experienced onto the Jewish People. In the pogroms and Holocaust the Jews were blamed for the financial despair of Europe, in the Spanish Inquisition the religious practices of the Jewish People were associated to evils, during the Black Plague the Jews were blamed for the spread of diseases and the Church blamed the death of Jesus on the Jews. Do you follow the pattern? The tactics and language may change but the strategy is almost always the same - pin point suffering and blame that suffering on to the Jewish People.
So how is Anti-Zionism Anti-Semitism? Well, first wouldn’t being against Black rights, Women rights, Native American rights or Tibetan rights make one anti-Black, anti-Women, anti-Native America or Anti-Tibetan? If does, then being against Jewish rights should just as much be considered as anti-Jewish.
The Israeli-Arab, or Israeli-Palestinian conflict, has affected the lives of millions of people, and touched the hearts of even more. However, this conflict is not connected to the idea or practice of Jewish self-determination. The conflict, status quo, and continuous suffering of the populations, was caused by wars that were waged to destroy Israel, not because of Zionism.
If there was no wars in 1948, 1967 or 1973, there would have been no displacements, no injuries, no deaths, and no conflict which exists today. Taking the PAIN and SUFFERING caused by ethnic wars waged by Arab leaders and connecting or blaming that on JEWISH self-determination, is the same old Anti-Semitism, just rebranded, repackaged and resold. Isn’t it obvious though that if someone actually harbored hatred against the Jewish People in a way or another that they would be against them having the ability to exist, self-determine, or even defend themselves?
Again, the same formula is used: find the suffering or something that a population considers evil, and blame that on the Jewish People.
Just look at both the right and left extremes in politics that are always against the Jewish People and today against the State of Israel. The right blames the Jewish People for Communism and the left blames the Jewish People for Capitalism.
To be a Anti-Zionist is not only Anti-Semitic because that person is against rights for Jews, it is also Anti-Semitic because they try to associate everything evil and the suffering of populations with the word to get others to the conclusion that rights for Jews is something to reject, fear, and ultimately rise against.
This UCLA Palestinian student is clearly a balanced and just person, but unfortunately was exposed to the wrong information which led him to understand “Zionism” as something negative. It is not his fault that he thinks this way, but if we don’t change that it then becomes our fault.
He requested for his face not to be shown after filming so out of respect we blurred his face out.
