➢ A former food service director at a school district in the Chicago area has been sentenced to 9 years in prison after admitting she stole $1.5 million worth of…chicken wings. Vera Liddell was convicted of theft and operating a criminal enterprise. The 68-year-old stole the mounds of meat intended to be take-home meals for students learning remotely during pandemic lockdowns. Court records show that Liddell ordered more than 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the school district’s food provider and picked up the order in a cargo van. The food was never brought to the school or given to students. The business manager for the district found the invoices for the chicken wings to be odd, because it is a food item that wouldn’t be served to students because they contain bones

WACKY-BUT-TRUE: WOMAN CALLS 911 OVER LONELY GOOSE CALL _ A woman in England called 911 to ask police to rescue a goose because it had “lost its friends” and looked hungry. The woman was told the goose’s welfare was not a police matter.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: CRYSTAL BALL OVERHEATS TV, IGNITES SOFA _ In the UK, a woman’s home was severely damaged by a freak fire sparked by the sun shining on a crystal ball on her window sill. The $30 ornament refracted the rays straight into the back of the woman’s TV which overheated and exploded, igniting a nearby sofa.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: BURGLAR STUCK IN BATHROOM VENT RESCUED _ A burglar was stopped when he got stuck climbing through a vent while trying to break into an apartment in China. Firefighters worked about an hour to free the man from the narrow vent leading to a bathroom.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: MAN’S LUNG COLLAPSES FROM TOO MUCH KARAOKE _ In China, a man was hospitalized after too much karaoke. The retiree reportedly sang ten songs in a row, straining to hit the high notes before succumbing to pain in his left side. Noticing he had trouble breathing, the man called it a night. The next day, he checked himself into a hospital and was told he had a collapsed lung.
WACKY-BUT-TRUE: DRUNKEN DRIVER WAS 13 YEARS OLD _ It’s not usual for a driver charged with drunken driving to be released into the custody of her mother, nor is it usual for an accused driver to be 13 years old. Police in the UK say an officer making a traffic stop found the intoxicated teen behind the wheel. And a few of her friends were along for the ride. She took her mom’s car without permission.
