TISSOT x GRENDIZER | PRX UFO ROBOT GRENDIZER NEW LAUNCH 22.08.2024

Tissot is here to shake us all out of sobriety with a special-edition version of its incredibly popular PRX model characterised by a 2D illustration of UFO Robot Grendizer, the titular character of a Japanese manga and animated television series.

Both the UFO Robot Grendizer manga and the show debuted in 1975, three years before Tissot launched the PRX watch. Ergo, it operates in nostalgia.

“It’s fascinating that UFO Robot Grendizer and the Tissot PRX both started in [the] 70s,” says Grendizer's creator, Go Nagai.

He adds: “By merging [...] Grendizer’s fight for a better future with the PRX’s journey of marking life’s milestones, we’ve crafted a watch that is a true tribute to their legacy and heritage.”

Suitably, the design also pays homage to the character's futuristic, intergalactic nature. The graphic of the robot imprinted on the blue dial glows thanks to yellow Super-LumiNova illumination. The seconds hand is complete with a crescent-shaped end redolent of Grendizer's 'harken' weapon. An image of the robot is engraved on the rotor which is visible through the mineral glass caseback. All of these nods are rounded off by the original title of the manga series, 'UFO ロボ グレンダイザー'.

Not to mention, the UFO case. Yes, Tissot has fabricated Grendizer's Spazer especially for the release and we must say – apologies in advance – it's out of this world.

The box the ship comes in is quite something, too. Red and black, like the Swiss watch marque's logo, and complete with Go Nagai sketches.
