Al Capone, born in Brooklyn in 1899, became one of America's most infamous gangsters. Rising to power in Chicago during Prohibition, he led the Chicago Outfit, controlling a vast network of illegal alcohol operations. Known for his ruthlessness, Capone orchestrated events like the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre while cultivating a public image as a generous benefactor. Despite his power, federal efforts led to his conviction for tax evasion in 1931. Capone's later years were marked by declining health, and he died in 1947. His story remains a stark lesson on the impact and eventual downfall of organized crime.
