A Case for GLOCK: When Reliability is Paramount

Everyone has their own idea of what makes the "best" handgun. While making their claim, most people fail to define what their idea of a "best" handgun is designed to do. The best competition gun is going to be significantly different from the best duty/combat handgun.

Many handguns are geared towards competition and enjoyment on the range. Duty/combat handguns are designed to be supremely reliable first, and then offer a high degree of combat accuracy second; Glock has both of these attributes in spades. Any other attribute is tertiary to these two metrics. People frequently, and erroneously, confuse these two types of handguns by trying to make their duty gun run like a competition gun. They replace the genuine manufacturer parts for faster/smoother/lighter aftermarket parts in search of the fastest and flattest shooting duty or concealed carry handgun, often at the expensive of reliability. Reliability comes first for a gun tasked with defending life. This is why I'm a staunch advocate of keeping your duty/defensive Glock completely stock. Some people even run bona fide competition guns AS their duty gun; this is also sub-optimal for a duty/defensive application.

All of this to say, there are certainly guns on the market that are more accurate than Glock, and also have better triggers and grips that fit your hand like a glove. But when selecting a handgun to defend life with, there's no other pistol I'd choose over Glock because of their 40 year track record of supreme reliability, and high degree of combat accuracy.
