Took a whale watching trip out of Juneau AK with a side trip to a nearby glacier. This is a long video, but cool. Biologists identify individual whales partly by markings on their flukes (tails) and you can hear people get excited whenever a whale does a deep dive that shows their tails.
Time markers:
2:04 first flukes seen
4:10 whale known to locals as "Flame", her son sizzle also comes to this area
5:49 captain of the boat explains that the whales sometimes watch us as well
7:21 the puffs of mist you can see in the video are whales breathing
12:50 first killer whales seen (Orcas)
14:19 More orcas, their dorsal fins can be up to 5 feet tall; but compared to the other whales (humpbacks) that get up to 50 feet long they appear small from a distance.
17:10 Nugget falls, a one hour hike for the nimble. The tiny figures at the base of the falls are humans
17:44 porcupine in a tree next to the path to the falls
17:52 Elevated trail to keep the black bears separate from tourists, the stream with spawning salmon is right under the trail
