Halkidiki is a peninsula and the nome of the same name in northeastern Greece, on the periphery of Central Macedonia. Its capital is the city of Poliiros. Halkidiki is not only the center of beach tourism in Greece, but for thousands of Orthodox Christians around the world, Mount Athos is one of the greatest sanctuaries.
