Edward Gein, also known as the "Butcher of Plainfield," was an American murderer and grave robber whose crimes shocked the world in the 1950s. Living in isolation in rural Wisconsin, Gein was found to have exhumed corpses from local graveyards, using human skin and bones to craft gruesome keepsakes. He confessed to killing two women, Mary Hogan and Bernice Worden, and was declared legally insane. Gein's twisted acts inspired famous horror films like Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. He spent the remainder of his life in a mental institution, dying in 1984.
