The illusion of education: parents' regrets

The biggest mistake I ever made as a parent, in my opinion, was sending my kids to public school. The second biggest mistake was letting them go to school at all. The purpose of the school is to create employees for companies. It's not like you're teaching your kids to be smart. There is a book that I would highly recommend. It's called Weapons of Mass Instruction by John Taylor Gatto. He was a five-time Teacher of the Year in New York, New York State. Teacher of the year five times. And he was completely disappointed when he realized that the purpose of the professor was not to teach mathematics. I think he might have taught English, English, or math. He said, I was disappointed the day I realized that my job was not to teach math. My job was to teach at school. Think about it. In school they teach you that nothing is important. How do you do it? It's the only place you'll work in your life where you work on something for 45 or 55 minutes and then the bell rings and you close your book. Don't care about it until tomorrow. It doesn't make sense. The reason they use bells in schools is because they use them on conveyor belts. Lunch time, ring the bell. Okay, go to lunch. The bell rings again, you're coming back from lunch. The whole thing was programmed to respond to a stimulus. We still tell our kids, if you want to do well in life, you have to go to college, get a degree. The only reason we tell them this is because we are expected to tell them. We didn't really think about it.#PublicSchool#EducationSystem#ParentalMistakes
