National conventions are highly scrutinized events, serving as the platform for major political parties to formally announce their presidential nominees. Situated on the banks of Lake Michigan, not far from the Mississippi River, Chicago has long been a crossroads for American industry. The choice of location was announced more than a year in advance and is often seen as an extension of the party’s campaign strategy. No other city in the United States has hosted as many presidential conventions. Chicago holds the record, having welcomed 26 in total. In the case of Chicago, unveiled as a pick in April 2023, is a nod to the city’s critical position in the Midwest region. Midwestern states are now considered political battlegrounds. Chicago is the country’s third-largest city, and a real microcosm for the American experience.
