Tiny Dachshund Pup Rides On A Small Horse

I don’t know why don’t have more videos of tiny dog riding on small horses. Obviously, not all dogs get along with horses and not all horses get along with dogs. That said, there is something adorable and heartwarming about seeing animals of different species being able to hang out. Which is why I found a lot of joy in watching this small, vested Dachshund riding around on what appears to be a Shetland puppy. But we never see the full horse, so it’s hard to tell.

We couldn’t find information about whether or not Dachshunds are known to be good around horses. They are small, nervous dogs that do not like things bigger than them, so we would assume not. However, there are always exceptions including anecdotes on farming forums and videos of dachshunds hanging out around horses. We did find a list of dogs that are known to get along with horses but it did not include the dachshund. Instead, it had some breeds you might expect like Golden Retrievers.

A lot of the horse friendly dogs are natural herders like Australian Shepherds, the aforementioned Golden Retrievers, Dalmatians and Australian Cattle Dogs. One that did surprise was the Corgi! But we did not know that corgis were originally bred to work with cows. Apparently, corgis were literally bred to be ankle biters! Originally, they would nip cattle on the heels and noses to get them moving. Another fun fact we learned was that corgis were also used to herd geese, which they do without any biting. Final fun fact about the dachshund. The word “dachs” is German for Badger and these guys were bred to battle badgers.
