A couple is suing Emory University Hospital Midtown in Atlanta after the hospital allegedly lost part of a patient’s skull following brain surgery.

Fernando Cluster required emergency surgery in September 2022 to treat a brain hemorrhage, during which a portion of his skull was removed.

When the hospital attempted to retrieve the bone flap for a follow-up surgery in November, they reportedly found multiple bone flaps with incomplete identification, preventing them from confirming which one belonged to Cluster.

As a result, Cluster had to receive a synthetic bone flap, leading to a longer hospital stay, an infection, and additional surgeries, NBC News has reported.
