Volcano erupts in Russia after 7.0-mag quake, sending ash column 5 miles high

A 7.0-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s east coast triggered an eruption of the Shiveluch volcano, sending an ash column 5 miles into the air.

The volcano is located 280 miles from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Kamchatka region.

Despite the significant seismic activity, there are no reports of injuries or major damage, though buildings are being inspected, CNN has reported.
