** Blues on the Road to Damascus | Saul's Transformation to Paul

** On the road to Damascus, Saul, a fierce persecutor of Christians, was blinded by a brilliant light from heaven and heard the voice of Jesus Christ. This powerful encounter changed everything. Saul’s life was turned upside down, and he would soon be known as Paul, one of the greatest apostles of the early Church.

Story Behind the Song:
Saul was a man on a mission, fueled by hatred and determined to crush the followers of "The Way." Armed with letters from the high priest, he was on his way to Damascus to bring believers back to Jerusalem in chains. But as he neared the city, everything changed:

"As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him. He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?' He said, 'Who are you, Lord?' The Lord said, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But rise up and enter into the city, and you will be told what you must do.'"
(Acts 9:3-6 WEB)

Blinded by the encounter, Saul was led by hand into Damascus, where he remained without sight for three days. During this time, he neither ate nor drank, reflecting on the magnitude of what had happened. God sent a disciple named Ananias to heal Saul:

"Ananias departed and entered into the house. Laying his hands on him, he said, 'Brother Saul, the Lord, who appeared to you on the road by which you came, has sent me that you may receive your sight, and be filled with the Holy Spirit.' Immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he received his sight. He arose and was baptized."
(Acts 9:17-18 WEB)

From that moment, Saul became Paul, a new man with a new mission. No longer would he persecute the Church; instead, he would become one of its most passionate advocates, spreading the gospel far and wide.

This blues song captures the depth of Paul’s transformation, with lyrics inspired by Acts 9 and the profound shift that took place within him. Listen, reflect, and be inspired by the journey of a man who went from darkness to light.

** Full Song Lyrics:

(Verse 1)
I was breathing out threats, with a heart like cold steel,
On the road to Damascus, thinking nothing could be real.
I had letters in my hand, ready to drag them down,
But a light from heaven hit me, and it knocked me to the ground.

(Chorus)
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
The voice shook my soul, brought me to my knees.
"Who are you, Lord?" my trembling voice did plead,
"I am Jesus," He said, "the one you truly need."

(Verse 2)
Blinded by the glory, couldn’t find my way,
For three days in darkness, didn’t eat, didn’t pray.
Ananias came and said, "Brother, I’ve been sent,
By the Lord who found you, so you could repent."

(Bridge 1)
Scales fell from my eyes, and I saw the light,
A man once so blind, now given new sight.
Baptized in the water, like death’s grip released,
Rose up from the deep, my soul finally at peace.

(Verse 3)
The man they called Saul, known for bringing fear,
Had his name changed to Paul, for the Lord made it clear.
Now I carry the name that I once tried to break,
For His love, His mercy, I’ll suffer for His sake.

(Chorus)
"Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?"
Those words turned my darkness into something holy.
Now I walk the straight street, no longer bound,
A servant of the Lord, where grace and truth abound.

(Bridge 2)
I’m the Lord’s chosen vessel, to bear His name,
To the Gentiles and kings, I’ll proclaim His fame.
I’ll walk through the fire, through trials and pain,
For the one who met me, and changed my name.

(Outro)
On the road to Damascus, my past left behind,
Saul became Paul, with a renewed mind.
Now I live for the Lord, His truth I’ll defend,
For the grace that saved me, has no end.
