When David tried to grab the power of the northern kingdom of Israel from Ish Bosheth through Avner, the LORD did not give him that kingdom. For five and a half years from the time of the murder of Ish Bosheth, there was no king in northern Israel. David learned to wait until the LORD led their leaders to come to him in Hevron and made him their king too.
