Princess and the goblin, part 1

Princess Irene lives in a secluded castle on a mountain, watched over by her nursemaid, Lootie. One day, while exploring the castle, Irene discovers a mysterious staircase leading to a hidden tower where she meets her great-great-grandmother, also named Irene. The older Irene is a magical figure who gives the princess a special thread that will guide her to safety if she’s ever in danger.

Meanwhile, in the valleys below, a young miner boy named Curdie works in the mines. Curdie learns of a plot by the goblins who live underground to kidnap Princess Irene and marry her off to their prince, Harelip. The goblins hate humans and are planning something sinister, but they fear being discovered. Curdie overhears their plans and becomes determined to protect the princess.
