Imperialism Vs. Zionism Debate

An interesting conversation sparked at Portland State University when a student came up to our Zionism table and began calling Israel "imperialistic".

"Imperialism" is defined as extending a country's power onto foreign lands through the use of diplomacy or force. The exact opposite took place with Zionism!

The establishment of Israel marked the liberation of indigenous Jewish land by the native Jewish People. Furthermore, the use of a military for the protection of their land and the refusal to be destroyed is NOT imperialism.

Zionism put into practice resulted in Jews having their homeland back and achieving their self-determination, which has inspired and empowered minorities throughout the world. The genocidal wars that the Arab countries and forces countlessly waged to eliminate the Jews and the continued failed Arab policies to live with the sole ambition of destroying the Jewish State are the very reasons for the status quo.

There are consequences for actions. These actions do not represent all Arabs or all Palestinians, but they very much so do represent their leadership, which has pocketed billions from foreign aid that was meant to help the very people they claim to represent.

There are many students today who don't believe in the formation of countries. However, "if your war against countries begins at the feet of the Jewish People and their country, you might just be an anti-Semite." -Matthew Finkelstein
