Acclaimed actress Gena Rowlands has passed away at the age of 94.

The two-time Golden Globe winner died peacefully at her home in Indian Wells, California, on Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by her family. Her husband of 12 years, Robert Forrest, and her eldest daughter, Alexandra Cassavetes, 58, were by her side, according to TMZ.

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Rowlands is best remembered for her role as the older Allie Hamilton in her son Nick Cassavetes' 2004 film *The Notebook,* where she portrayed the elder version of Rachel McAdams' character opposite Ryan Gosling.
