Douglas Prude was arrested on May 30, 2019 when he was in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Kalamazoo waiting for his cousin and wouldn't give public safety officers his name, saying he was just visiting. He drove away after the officers said they were going to detain him to see if he was trespassing and had a history with both officers. The Supreme Court ruled last month that police could not detain someone just for being in a high-crime area and Kalamazoo Public Safety Chief David Boysen says training changes may be made.
