Before entering Congress, Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz served in the National Guard for 25 years.

But just a few months before his unit was called up to be deployed to Iraq, Walz resigned from the guard.

Since his rise to prominence, critics have pointed to this circumstance, as well as his exaggerations about the rank he retired under, to suggest Walz is guilty of so-called “stolen valor.”
