How british destroyed maratha empire

When the East India company was increasing its foothold and domination in the Indian subcontinent, it faced a big obstacle in the form of the great Maratha Empire. Maratha Empire started under the leadership of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and was dominating the whole subcontinent by 1759. Hence, conflicts began between the East India Company and the Maratha Empire, which led to the Anglo-Maratha Wars. There were a total of three Anglo-Maratha Wars.
