This headlamp from VastFire is unlike any other I have tried, and I have tested quite a few, simply due to its size and power. Weighing in at around 360g and sized at 75 x 35 x 33 mm it is by far the largest and heaviest I have used yet and there lies both its strength and weakness.

The item arrived unboxed but in a plain semi-rigid storage case. In the storage case were just the head torch, USB charging cable and a car USB adapter. No user guide was included, which is a pity, and the lack of external packaging reduces the appeal of the item as a gift, but no matter.

Build quality is first rate and this headlight certainly, has a premium feel and a robust build quality that many rivals lack and which belies the relatively low price.

The aluminium alloy headlight has a robust detachable elasticated headband with an adjustable buckle which feels well made and built to last. Facing forward is the main light, a large white 3500°K 2000 lumens convex lens LED with an XHP90 LED chip. On the top of the 90° tilting head is the single control button, short press to scroll through the 3 lighting modes. The lens is zoomable with a simple push and pull action.

The battery compartment for the three replaceable 18650 2600mAh batteries is a separate unit and sits at the rear of the head held in place by the headband. The plastic battery box also houses the small control button to turn on the large red strobing rear light which is controlled separately from the forward light. On the rear is the gromett protected USB-C charging port and the USB-A power bank power out port. The front light is connected to the battery box with a hard-wired curly cable clipped neatly to the headband.

The battery pack is charged through the USB-C port in the port bay with a 4 LED row confirming the current battery status. A full charge from flat giving 4 - 8 hours of sustained use depending on the mode used. There is a USB-A port in the bay which can be used to charge external devices and this it does better and faster than I expected and turns this device into a very useful emergency power bank with enough juice to power up most phones from flat at least once.

This is the most powerful headlight I have used and at 2000 lumens on full power is more than bright enough for most situations. The beam is steady and flicker free and can be zoomed in and out as required when working inside or out.

So what are the problems? Not many. The front headlight may well be too bright for work in the home and the headset is also on the heavy side and perhaps too bulky side for home DIY use. This headlight is designed, I think, not for the home but for use in the workplace, the building site, for caving, trekking or other robust outdoor activities and for all of these it is well suited. There is no gesture control mode, which is a pity, as hands-free operation can be very useful when working.

If you need a simple lightweight head torch for home use, in the attic or for domestic DIY, then this may not be the best for you. If you need a robust, heavy duty and extra powerful light for all weathers outdoor use then this might be just what you are after. At the current price of £51.16 before discounts, it may prove to be a very decent buy.
