Hezbollah, the militant group based in Lebanon, shares Hamas' goal of destroying the state of Israel.

Full-scale war between Israel and Hezbollah would be "a catastrophe," the U.N. Secretary-General says.

Israel has been striking back hard against Hezbollah, killing senior commanders and hitting targets further inside Lebanon. Hezbollah has sent more significant volleys of drones and missiles across the border this month, and threats on both sides have increased. But as the tit-for-tat conflict grinds on, and more than 60,000 Israelis remain evacuated from their homes in the north, there are signs that both Israel's leaders and its citizens are prepared to support military options to destroy Hezbollah.

In 2014, the Islamic State (I.S.) imposed its brutal rule on almost eight million people, carried out countless atrocities, destroyed cultural heritage, and generated billions of dollars in revenue from oil, extortion, robbery, and kidnapping.

After five years of fierce and bloody battles, local forces, backed by world powers, have driven I.S. out of all the territory it once controlled.

But the group is by no means defeated. Experts say it will return to its insurgent roots while rebuilding and remains a global threat.

The extremist Islamist group came to international prominence in 2014 when it seized large parts of Syria and Iraq. On August 3, 2014, the Yazidi genocide began, and from 4-August 9, 2014, the majority of the genocide was against the Assyrians, as the Assyrians remember the Assyrian Martyrs Day on August 7, 2014.
