The Sasebo Incident is a case that occurred on June 1, 2004, in Sasebo City, Japan, and sent shockwaves throughout the country when an 11-year-old claimed the life of her classmate during lunchtime at school. The sixth grader only spent 2 years in a psychiatric facility before being released back into society. The brutality of the crime sparked debates over the age of juvenile detention and placed heavy criticism within the school and staff. The case is known throughout Japan as the Sasebo Incident, but online, it is known as the “Nevada-tan” case.
