Righteousness
◦ What is righteousness?
▪ Righteousness is obedience, love, and commitment to the truth, Jesus Christ, and
commands of Jesus Christ.
◦ What does righteousness entail?
▪ 1 John 3:7 →Righteousness isn’t hidden and should reflect the righteousness of Jesus
Christ.
▪ Psalm 106:3 → God blesses the righteous.
▪ Matthew 5:10-12, 1 Peter 3:14 → The righteous will likely suffer for righteousness’ sake
and are blessed for doing so.
▪ Proverbs 21:3 → Righteousness is better than sacrifice. The focus of Christians should
be on righteousness which MUST include love.
▪ Psalms 34:15, 1 Peter 3:12, James 5:16→God hears and is close to the righteous.
◦ What is unrighteousness?
▪ To be sinning, disobedient to Jesus, to do the works of the flesh is largely what entails
unrighteousness; to be corrupted → Galatians 5:19-21
◦ How do we be righteous?
▪ Romans 10:4, Matthew 22:36-40→By having faith and doing the will of Jesus Christ in
love especially.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 → Without love, we can’t be righteous because without love
we are nothing.

Matthew 6:33, 2 Timothy 2:22 → We have to choose to actively pursue
righteousness.
