CAPEHART: “With Harris and walz, the American people have a team that speaks to their highest aspirations and models the goodness and possibility that the Trump-Vance team, is trying so hard to diminish. Joining me now is Minnesota attorney general, Keith Ellison, who served in Congress with Tim Walz and was appointed by the governor to oversee the prosecution of the officers who murdered George Floyd. Attorney general Ellison, welcome back to “the Saturday show.” You and governor walz were elected to Congress in 2008. You both left at the same time and ran for statewide office. Bring us inside your relationship with Tim Walz, from Congress, to statewide elected officials.”

Ellison: “Well, I met him on the campaign trail and we ran for Congress, I always liked his energy come he was impressive, he was a really good and effective platform speaker, but after we both won John Lewis invited all of us down to Alabama to the reenactment of the March over the edmund pettis bridge, and I will never forget Tim and Gwen Walz were listening so attentively they were so engaged in the conversation, you know, in the middle of that movement, where America was becoming truly— liberty and justice for all. I mean, he said look, keith, I am a social studies teacher, I’m fascinated by this kind of stuff, and I’m so proud to be here. His wife, gwen said yeah, we are so glad to be here. That solidified for me, who he was. When George Floyd was being murdered, he calls me and says man, this is intolerable. This is unacceptable. And he said look, I need you to send this thing. I said we will do the best we can to get accountability. So, he’s just been a great partner all around. Motivated by compassion. Motivated by, you know, a heart for the people. That’s all I can really say about the guy, he is sincere, and dedicated.”
