Burn: The Last Witness (part 47)

*The last Burn saw of Rayne's father, Traul was on the floor of his laboratory where he once had been hard at work trying to cure the 9th plague. It was due to the efforts of Traul and Gabriella that it became known that ancient DNA from some ancient creature had been added to mostly harmless vaccines to see if that DNA could help instantly cure such illnesses as COVID, the flu, and even pneumonia. It was supposed to be just a test, combing that DNA sequence to vaccines was never supposed to actually be put into practice, but somehow that's exactly what happened and anyone infected with that ancient DNA....through A bite of one already infected, or somehow getting infected blood into an already open wound...would cause immediate transformation. The ancient DNA would spread like a poison, blue streaks of death quickly sparking up a body until eyes and mouth would glow a terrible electric blue. Once that happened the infected became mindless creatures soon called only the Devoted due to their devotion to spreading their disease and how, once enough Devoted were made, they would gather in large groups to scream continually up at the sky. Traul gets infected from a dirty syringe he just wasn't paying attention to and the last Burn ever saw of him, for over two millennia, was him falling to the floor of his lab as he began to be consumed and become one of the Devoted [AI Art]*
